Andreas Fries

Andreas Fries is a Senior Partner at Herzog & de Meuron. He has led a number of local and international projects of varying typologies, including Stadtcasino, Helvetia Campus and Asklepios 8 in Basel;Titlis 3020 in Engelberg;Vitra Schaudepot in Weil am Rhein, Germany;Feltrinelli Porta Volta and Museo della Resistenza in Milan, Italy;Mandarin Oriental Palazzo Cristallo in Cortina d’Ampezzo, and Mandarin Oriental Lago di Como in Blevio, Italy;Grand Canal Museum in Hangzhou, China;and Iglesia El Punto in Ciudad Juarez, and Monterrey House, Monterrey, Mexico. Additionally, he was also highly involved in the design of the Bélair-Monange winery in Saint-Émilion, France and SongEun Art Space in Seoul, South Korea. Alongside his project work, Andreas is part of Herzog & de Meuron’s Strategic Board. Andreas is a member of the Federation of Swiss Architects BSA/FSA. Based on his experience working with heritage buildings, he was nominated as a member of the Basel Historical Buildings and Monuments Council in 2021. He is active as a Board Member on the Foundation for Arts & Design in Basel and the Fondazione Canova ETS in Montecrestese, Italy. Andreas has been teaching at the YAC Academy in Bologna, Italy, since 2021. Andreas graduated from ETH with a Master of Architecture in 2002, with exchanges at the EPFL Lausanne and the Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
