Spiros Pengas is appointed counsellor to the Mayor of Thessaloniki, responsible for Tourism and International Relations. He is also President and CEO of the Metropolitan Agency of Thessaloniki and has been a city council member since 2010. He promotes the city's overall strategic policy planning in design.
In his former role as Deputy Mayor for Culture and Tourism, he undertook a systematic effort to change the culture and tourism profile of Thessaloniki, in an attempt to transform it into a welcoming, cosmopolitan, multicultural city. A plethora of innovative programs were implemented and embraced by residents and visitors alike - for example, Creativity Platform. This series of events highlighted the city’s rich tapestry of design and creative professionals, boosted the concept of creative economy and unearthed the city’s overall contemporary design identity.
